Roots. Carbon was founded with a simple dream–to create a place where bright, talented people could solve tough problems as they helped companies achieve their product development goals.

Originally known as Lakeside, the firm was founded in 1993 with a focus on mechanical engineering. Industrial design was added in 2000, moving client partnerships into more strategic realms. In 2005, the team expanded to include electrical and software engineering. More recently, Carbon has included user research to round out our end-to-end offering.

To reflect the company’s evolution, in 2005, Lakeside Product Development became Carbon Design Group. The fact that carbon is known as “the fundamental building block of life” resonates with the team because we all share the human desire to create positive impact in the world.

Today. Our team members don’t see themselves as just engineers, industrial designers, or researchers. We work together as product development specialists. Our integrated team spans the development process as we deliver results for our clients.
